JPDC AI Container

Introduction

Japan’s AI market is expanding at an accelerated pace, driven by the rapid surge in AI adoption in recent years. However, there are still only a limited number of data centers in Japan capable of hosting the high‑performance GPU servers essential for AI processing, and supply is widely viewed as falling short of demand.

In response to these challenges, NTT-ME is entering the container-based data center business, which enables flexible design and significantly shorter deployment timelines compared to conventional building-type data centers.

The brand name for this initiative is “JPDC AI Container.”

As the first step of the project, we have acquired approximately 50,000 square meters of land in Ishikari City, Hokkaido—an area where Japan’s leading operators are concentrated and which is expected to become a key hub for regionally distributed data centers—and have officially launched the project.

Containerized Data Center

We have acquired approximately 50,000 square meters of land in Ishikari City, Hokkaido and expect to launch “JPDC AI Container Village @ Ishikari” in early 2027.

At this site, we will build and provide container‑based data centers equipped with state‑of‑the‑art liquid cooling technologies, including Direct Liquid Cooling.

The site will support up to 14 container units (modules), with full-scale operation targeted by 2032. This initiative will also contribute to regional revitalization and support the realization of the Hokkaido Valley vision.

Future Outlook

In the future, we will leverage the inherent advantages of container‑based data centers to expand deployment into high‑demand areas across the country by utilizing available land and open spaces nationwide.

In addition, we expect to launch a comprehensive, one‑stop engineering support service that supports every phase of container‑based data center implementation—from site assessment and power procurement to design, construction, operations and maintenance, and network services—for organizations and enterprises seeking container‑based data center solutions.
